Hikers Pleroma im Fediverse

@GIMP Please use the correct wording: You are not "on Mastodon" - you are in #Fediverse now on a instance which is using Mastodon software. "The mastodon" doesn't exist - the decentralised network is called #Fediverse.
Thank you.

@mkljczk So I don't understand why this share should go only to Mastodon and not to #Fediverse. Why should Mastdon be the only platform which should be supported? Of course Mastodon is only one of the possible implementations - besides #Pleroma, #Misskey, #Friendica, #Hubzilla where the common communication system is #ActivityPub - so why not support this protocol? @GIMP

@mkljczk I don't understand. To which feature are you referring? @GIMP

@mkljczk And the post should then go to a Mastodon instance? @GIMP

@mkljczk And what is the point behind it, why only with Mastodon? @GIMP

@coloco No, you don't enter in Mastodon, the network is called #Fediverse. @GIMP @mkljczk

@humanetech

The #FSFE has created a project for #Fediverse share buttons,

Yes, why not. But there it should be a #Fediverse share button, not a Mastodon share button.

@GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco No, that is wrong. Mastodon is NO network. Mastodon is a platform (software) IN the network #Fediverse. @GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco No, THE network is #Fediverse and the different instances made with Mastodon, #Pleroma, #Friendica, #Hubzilla and others are connected to this network with #ActivityPub. Different instances of Mastodon, Pleroma and so on itself are NOT networks.
Look at the picture.

@humanetech But if I understand the posts before thies "Fediverse button" works only with a Mastodon platform. @GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco And why?
But facts count, not opinions. @GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco GnuSocial is very old and there is a version which supports ActivityPub, too. The GnuSocial instances which have no ActivityPub can communicate to each others and are counted still the Fediverse and nobody call this am own network (like Diaspora which communicates to Hubzilla and Friendica). So the network is called Friendica and there is no Mastodon network, no Pleroma network, no Friendica network and so on. @GIMP @mkljczk

@GIMP If wording ist correct (Share on Mastodon in this case) it might be a tool. But as already mentioned several times, then the word "Fediverse" must not appear anywhere in the description of this button. Mastodon is *not* the Fediverse @mkljczk

@coloco But this is wrong. There are no other networks than #Fediverse. @GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco I am here more than 7 years. I started with Statusnet, then GnuSocial... @GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco Yes, and that is exactly why I am trying to correct the wrong views. @GIMP @mkljczk

@junbird No, "the Mastodon" doesn't exist - but perhaps the author of this software has this intention - sometimes it look like this... sorry to say. The expression "Fediverse" seems sometimes not to have a big importance. @mkljczk

@coloco We just don't have a big PR department. @GIMP @mkljczk

@junbird
> similiar features where advertised to be working on "the Fediverse",

Do you have examples.

>That's arguably worse, that really does make it seem like "the fediverse" = "the mastodon".

Exactly what I try to say here all the time: Mastodon is not the Fediverse!

@mkljczk

@junbird Exactly what I said - "Share on the Fediverse" which works only with Mastodon is a no-go IMHO. @one @mkljczk

@psymin The platform where you have your account is using #ActivityPub protocol to share the messages with other platforms with different software running - this is the network called #Fediverse

@coloco Yes I hope so and that is also the reason why I cannot remain silent on the subject of #Fediverse. @GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco What exactly do you want to find out with the survey?
@GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco That will be difficult, people have not followed the discussion and what would be the questions?

@GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco The lock only says that I have to confirm when somebody wants to follow. @GIMP @mkljczk

@coloco No. This thread is public - so everybody can read it. @GIMP @mkljczk
